Great hotels both inside and outside of Grand Canyon National Park are there for your relaxation. The National Geographic Imax Theater, located in Tusayan, will surely leave you in awe - as will a helicopter or airplane tour of the Grand Canyon. You can also choose a Jeep tour at sunset to view the centuries-old petroglyphs or take a ride to the bottom of the canyon. Another fun excursion is a train ride from Williams to the Grand Canyon. Take time to enjoy the sunrise or the sunset, when the colors of the canyon come to life, and don't forget to stop to see the area's wildlife. Also coming soon to Tusayan is the Western Discovery Museum, an exciting addition to our community and one that should not be missed.
Any way you choose, you can't go wrong in the Grand Canyon area - and the Grand Canyon Chamber & Visitor's Bureau is ready to assist you with your hotel, Jeep or air tour reservations.
Grand Canyon (Tusayan) History & Culture
Until the early 1900s, the Grand Canyon was populated only by Native Americans. Fortunately, many of those same groups still live in the area and are actively involved at the Grand Canyon and in Tusayan - so you can still enjoy the sights and sounds of their musical and dance performances.
The Grand Canyon became a national monument in 1908 and a national park in 1919. The railroad began bring people to see the canyon back in 1901. Today, nearly 4.5 million people from around the world visit this wonder each year. Many of the buildings inside the park have stories to tell and one should take the time to explore these places. The Tusayan ruins along Desert View Drive tell a much older story, many centuries older, and are not to be missed. History and culture abound at the Grand Canyon and lucky enough for our visitors, the people who live and work here are willing and happy to share the tales!
